Ephesians 6:1-3 says, Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ² “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: ³ “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”

Honor is a big deal to God because He states in these verses that it’s right and it’s a commandment with promise that your life will go well and you will live a long time.

Why would God call our attention to one of the Ten Commandments in the New Testament? I’ll tell you why, because what was right in the Old Testament is right in the New Testament. Living ten, twenty years longer is the benefit of obeying your parents.

Of all the people in the world God chose your mama and daddy to be yours. They were willing to sacrifice, love you no matter what, forgive you and give you opportunity after opportunity.

So, the place your mama and daddy have in your life is a big deal to God and in turn it’s a big deal to you.
