Keeping Watch June 12, 2023

Hebrews 13:17 says, “Obey and be submissive to your [spiritual] leaders and submit to them [recognizing their authority over you], for they are keeping watch over your souls and continually guarding your spiritual welfare as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief and groans, for this would be of no benefit to you.”

For spiritual leadership, the emphasis must always be on servanthood. They come alongside, and they work for our joy. It encourages a good relationship of trust, but still calls for the people to be teachable by their leaders. Be a person ready to learn, ready to be taught, ready to be led, not eager to kick and rebel against anybody that calls you to do something at church.

Trust your spiritual leaders. Like the verse say, they are keeping watch over your souls and continually guarding your spiritual welfare.

Be supportive in your attitude and actions toward the goals and the direction of your leader. Go with them, support their vision and goals. With all the teaching and testimonies we should want to imitate their faith.  I believe this verse means we should receive their instructions with gladness and apply them to our lives.
