Light of the Word December 19, 2022

Philippians 2:15-16 children of God... among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the light-giving Message

The Christmas Season is here.  Thanksgiving has just passed. Our homes and The Christmas Tree is decorated.  People are cooking special dinners, shopping, having parties, giving and receiving gifts.

I enjoy the holidays from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, when family and friends gather together.  We have fun and fellowship giving thanks to God for all He has done, celebrating Jesus and giving us a new start in a new year.

It’s also a time to witness of Jesus to those who may not know Him. Some that just need an encouraging word or a nice smile to say hello.

A lady asked me about a man’s shirt today in Walmart. I gave my comment and thought that was the end of the conversation.  But I could tell she wanted to talk a little more. She told me her husband of over 30 years had passed away about a year ago.

She thought about him every day and missed him very much. I told her my husband had passed away also 11 years ago. She asked how do you go from day to day.  I told her I think about him every day but I never let it make me sad. Yes, I miss him very much. But he’s all around me through my kids, grandkids and the people that loved him.

I told her I called on the peace of God to get me through such a difficult time. I had prayed peace for many people about lost loved ones. I’d sowed into many now I would reap the peace I needed. The light of God’s Word gave me peace.

When the Light of the Word comes in, it illuminates our being.  The more of the Word the brighter we get – that’s when we’re noticed. We stand out – our light is shining out to the world. That’s important to those out there in the world.

I believe meeting this woman in Walmart was a divine appointment. I was not even where I intended to go. But the Light of God’s Word in us draws people to us.

It says in Matthew 5:16, Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Let’s let our Light of the Word shine out this holiday season and not only now but all year long.
